Beginning with the 9002 effects processor, Japanese effects and recording gear company Zoom (distributed in the US by Samson) has prided itself on offering high performance effects at an affordable price. The name was chosen because it denoted a “speedy motion or ascent,” and ascend Zoom did.
Originally, the company focused on helping other companies develop music-based equipment, but with the debut of the Zoom 9002, the company’s ascent in the world of guitar effects was clear. Zoom followed up the highly successful 9020 with the rack mountable 9010. Other 9000 series models were soon to follow, and eventually the company began offering floor-based pedal effects such as the Zoom Player 2020. Zoom’s effects pedal presence was soon to be solidified with the introduction of the Zoom 505. The rest is history.
Though Zoom no longer offers the original 505, the spirit of the pedal and its high quality effects live on in the company’s current pedals – the G series (for electric guitar), A series (for acoustic guitar), and B series (for bass guitar). Few companies can unit quality and affordability in the same way Zoom has.
