Arizona-based Homebrew Electronics (HBE) was founded by Joel Weaver and his wife Andrea. The small company builds each pedal one at a time using the best components available. Eschewing the common "boutique" term, Weaver simply prefers his products to be called "handmade" or "hand-built."

Since each pedal is handmade, a wide variety of customizations is available, depending upon customer needs. The customer can choose custom colors, knobs, designs, and other modifications to make his or her pedal unique.

H.B.E. is particularly noted for their wide range of distortion and overdrive effects. Some of their most popular models include the "Big D" Distortion, "Full Metal Jacket" Distortion (FMJ), "Power Screamer Overdrive," and "Ultimate Fuzz Octave" Fuzz and Octave (UFO). The company offers several time-based effects, including the Frostbite Analog Flanger, Mimic Analog Delay, and Three Hound Chorus. In addition to the above, HBE makes signature pedals for Gary Hoey, Gary Holt, and Paul Gilbert.
