Few effects pedal engineers have the kind of reputation that Oklahoma-based Robert Keeley has earned in the past few years. Keeley is known for being able to take an off-the-shelf $40 Boss pedal and transform it into a professional-quality stompbox that far exceeds its original specifications.
Some of Keeley’s most well-known modifications include the Boss BD-2 (“Phat” mod), Boss DS-1 (“Ultra” mod), Ibanez TS-9 (“Baked” mod), and Boss TR-2 (various mods). Keeley also modifies several other pedals, including the Pro-Co RAT and the Voodoo Lab Sparkle Drive.
Of course, Keeley doesn’t just offer modified pedals. They make several well-respected pedals as well, not the least of which is the much-celebrated Keeley Compressor. In fact, Keeley maintains that the Keeley Compressor/Boss-BD2 mod is his most popular combination. Keeley also makes a fuzz pedal (the “Fuzz Head”), two boost pedal(the “Java Boost” and “Time Machine” boost), a phaser, and an overdrive (the “Luna Overdrive”). Other special pedals include the Keeley true bypass looper (to make non-true bypass pedals true bypass) and a fixed-wah pedal (the “Nova Wah”). Keeley prides themselves on both customer service and price competitiveness.
